SaveTube not working? Neither SaveTube site downloads YouTube now
Two different sites used the SaveTube name for YouTube downloads, and neither offers them any more. On October 21, 2026 the savetube.me domain, whose downloader ran on yt.savetube.me, did not exist in DNS at all, so it cannot load for anyone. SaveTube.io is online but became a Douyin downloader, with a notice dated 12/1/24 saying it no longer supports downloading from YouTube.
Published October 21, 2026. Facts are dated and sourced below; individual user reviews are quoted as individual accounts, not as verified findings.
What happened to savetube.me
savetube.me was a blog-style site whose YouTube and Shorts downloader lived on the subdomains yt.savetube.me and ytube.savetube.me. The Wayback Machine has captures of the working downloader as late as November 13, 2025, and of the main site on November 25, 2025.
On October 21, 2026 both our server in Canada and Google's public DNS reported that savetube.me does not exist. That happens when a domain's registration lapses or is suspended; which of the two applies here is not public, and we found no announcement from the operator.
What happened to SaveTube.io
SaveTube.io was a separate YouTube downloader: its September 2024 Wayback capture is titled "Best YouTube Video Downloader - SaveTube". By December 2024 it served Douyin downloads instead. Its update box lists a notice dated 12/1/24 that SaveTube.io no longer supports downloading from YouTube, followed by Douyin support the next day.
The notice carries the same date as X2Download's, and both sites now use a similar layout, but nothing public tells us whether they share an operator, so we make no claim either way.
Quick checks
- If savetube.me or yt.savetube.me will not load, it is not your connection or browser: the domain no longer exists.
- If SaveTube.io shows a Douyin page, that is the site's current purpose. It does not accept YouTube links.
- Sites calling themselves SaveTube on other domains are not either of the originals as far as public records show. Do not install apps or extensions they offer.
- Open the video on YouTube itself before trying any converter. Private, age restricted, region restricted or removed videos fail everywhere.
An ad-free alternative: what AudioFetcher offers
AudioFetcher is the converter we build, so read this section as the developer's description rather than an independent review. The facts below are the ones a visitor can check on the site itself.
| Ads and pop-ups | None. The service is funded by Supporter Passes and donations, not ad networks. |
|---|---|
| Installation | None. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile; a Firefox extension is optional. |
| Free limit | Single videos up to 60 minutes, MP3 up to 320 kbps, FLAC, or the original Opus and M4A streams. Up to 50 free MP4s a day, up to 1080p. |
| Paid option | Supporter Pass, $5 one-time for 30 days: audio up to 12 hours, full playlists, priority processing. No subscription. |
| Extras | Chapter embedding and splitting, SponsorBlock removal, ID3 tags and cover art, subtitles, LRCLIB lyrics, ordered playlist ZIPs. |
| Verification | One Cloudflare Turnstile check before a free conversion. No account for free use. |
| Files | Temporary. Downloads expire after a short window and are deleted; nothing is kept as a library. |
| Content policy | Convert only videos you own or have permission to download. |
Common questions
Is SaveTube down?
savetube.me is gone: on October 21, 2026 the domain did not resolve anywhere we checked, and the live check above tests it every 10 minutes. SaveTube.io answers, but only for Douyin.
Did SaveTube shut down?
Neither operator published a shutdown statement beyond SaveTube.io's one-line notice dated 12/1/24. What can be checked is the result: one domain no longer exists and the other no longer offers YouTube.
Is there a new official SaveTube domain?
Not that we can verify. Neither site announced a move, so a domain claiming to be the new SaveTube is a third party until proven otherwise.
What does AudioFetcher do differently?
It is a working, ad-free converter for YouTube: free single videos up to 60 minutes as MP3, M4A, Opus or FLAC, MP4 up to 1080p, plus tags, chapters and SponsorBlock removal. A $5 Supporter Pass adds 12-hour audio and full playlists.
