SaveFrom.net or ssyoutube not working?
SaveFrom.net is still online and a review in August 2026 confirmed YouTube downloads work, so a failure is usually one of: the browser Helper extension, which Chrome removed from its store on December 13, 2025; a lookalike domain such as savefrom.space, which Canadian ISPs were ordered to block in June 2026; aggressive pop-under ads intercepting the click; or a video that YouTube itself will not serve.

What changed in 2025 and 2026
The SaveFrom.net Helper extension, which added download buttons to YouTube pages, was removed from the Chrome Web Store on December 13, 2025 for a policy violation, according to the chrome-stats listing. If your downloads used to appear as a button on YouTube and now do not, that is the reason. A blog post claims the extension has returned under a new identifier; we could not verify it.
In June 2026 a Canadian Federal Court ordered nine ISPs to block savefrom.space, along with y2mate.ws and ytmp3.lat. That order names the lookalike domain, not savefrom.net. One vendor blog claims ssyoutube has been closed permanently; that is contradicted by an August 2026 review and by uptime records from May 2026, so we do not repeat it.
Why the download button sends you somewhere else
A spotsaas review from August 2026 found that Norton Safe Web does not classify SaveFrom.net as malicious, but named aggressive pop-unders and redirect ads as the primary risk, with some pages redirecting when you click anywhere on the screen. Older Trustpilot accounts describe new tabs pushing a fake Flash Player update. The extension also requests access to all browsing data. None of that is malware in the strict sense; it is an ad model that makes the actual download button hard to hit.
Other recurring reports: HD video downloads arriving without audio, an upsell into the paid Ummy desktop app for playlists, and antivirus products blocking the ssyoutube link. Vendor blogs claim region blocks in the United States and India; the August 2026 review found no evidence of a US block.
Quick checks
- Type the address yourself: en.savefrom.net or ssyoutube.com. Anything else is a lookalike.
- Open the video on YouTube. Private, age restricted, region restricted or removed videos fail on every converter.
- If a click opens a new tab or an unrelated site, close it and try the same button again with an ad blocker on. Do not install anything a pop-up offers.
- If you relied on the Helper extension, it is gone from the Chrome Web Store; use the website directly or another tool.
An ad-free alternative: what AudioFetcher offers
AudioFetcher is the converter we build, so read this section as the developer's description rather than an independent review. The facts below are the ones a visitor can check on the site itself.
| Ads and pop-ups | None. The service is funded by Pro subscriptions and Supporter passes, not ad networks. |
|---|---|
| Installation | None. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile; a Firefox extension is optional. |
| Free limit | Single videos up to 60 minutes, MP3 up to 320 kbps, FLAC, or the original Opus and M4A streams. One free MP4 per day up to 720p. |
| Paid tier | Pro at $6 a month or $59 a year: audio up to 12 hours, playlists, MP4 to 1080p, priority queue. |
| Extras | Chapter embedding and splitting, SponsorBlock removal, ID3 tags and cover art, subtitles, LRCLIB lyrics, ordered playlist ZIPs. |
| Verification | One Cloudflare Turnstile check before a free conversion. No account for free use. |
| Files | Temporary. Downloads expire after a short window and are deleted; nothing is kept as a library. |
| Content policy | Convert only videos you own or have permission to download. |
Common questions
Is SaveFrom.net shut down?
No. It was working in August 2026 according to an independent review. The Helper extension was removed from the Chrome Web Store in December 2025, and a lookalike domain was blocked in Canada in June 2026, which is where the confusion comes from.
Is SaveFrom.net safe?
Norton Safe Web does not classify it as malicious. Reviewers describe aggressive pop-under and redirect ads, and the extension asked for broad browser permissions. Use an ad blocker and never install what a pop-up offers.
Why does ssyoutube say the download link was not found?
That error has been reported since at least 2024. It usually means the site could not fetch that particular video, so test a short public video as a control before assuming the site is down.
What does AudioFetcher do differently?
No ads, so there is nothing to intercept the download button, and no extension to install. Free single videos up to 60 minutes with one Turnstile check; Pro for longer audio and playlists. It also adds chapters, SponsorBlock, tags and cover art.
