Y2Mate is gone. Here is what happened
The original y2mate.com closed for good on October 14, 2025, together with eleven other stream-ripping sites, after enforcement action by IFPI in Vietnam. IFPI took over the domain, and as of October 2026 it does not even resolve. Any site calling itself Y2Mate today, such as y2mate.nu (now y2mate.gs), y2mate.is (now y2mate.st) or y2mate.lol, is a lookalike of unknown ownership, and one of them was blocked by a Canadian court in June 2026.

The October 2025 shutdown
IFPI, the recording industry's global trade body, announced on October 14, 2025 that the operator of Y2mate.com had agreed to shut the site down permanently, along with 9convert.com, In-y2mate.com, Tomp3.cc, Ump3.cc, utomp3.com, y2mate.gg, yt1s.gg, youtubepp.com, yt1s.com, vidcombo.com and Y2mates.com. IFPI said the twelve domains had received more than 620 million visits in the previous twelve months and that most of the domains, including y2mate.com and yt1s.com, are now in its possession.
This was the end of a long process. Back in August 2021, Y2Mate had already blocked visitors from the United States and United Kingdom with a fake "service discontinued" notice after roughly 9,300 takedown notices from the RIAA. TorrentFreak, which covered both events, cautioned that such sites can be relaunched quickly, which is exactly what the lookalikes did.
What the Y2Mate copies do now (checked October 21, 2026)
On October 21, 2026 we opened the best-known Y2Mate domains from our status server in Canada and from a connection in Jordan, following every redirect. The domains are plain text on purpose; we do not link to them. Results differ by country and can change at any time.
| Domain | What it did on October 21, 2026 |
|---|---|
| y2mate.com | Nothing loads. The domain no longer resolves: its registry status is clientHold, and every check by our status checker since October 13, 2026 has failed at the DNS step. |
| y2mate.gg | Shows IFPI's notice that the site was shut down for copyright infringement. It was one of the twelve domains in the October 2025 agreement. |
| y2mate.nu | Redirects to y2mate.gs, registered on February 26, 2026. From Canada it shows only a "Restricted" page saying the site is not available in your country. From Jordan it is a converter capped at MP3 192 kbps up to 150 minutes and MP4 720p up to 30 minutes; the first download click also opens a tab on another domain. |
| y2mate.is, y2mate.so | Redirect to en.y2mate.st, registered on June 22, 2026. The converter page embeds a third-party ad script that can open new windows when you click. |
| y2mate.ws | Redirects to y2mate.tw, a converter that calls itself ad-free, asks for donations and sends playlist downloads to a separate desktop app site. y2mate.ws is the domain named in the June 2026 Canadian blocking order, which binds specific ISPs; it still answered from our server. |
| y2mate.ch | Redirects to y2matedownloader.com, which is not a web converter: it sells Y2Mate-branded desktop software, labelled "Official", for downloading from streaming services. |
| y2mate.tools | Redirects to ytmp3.vg, a YTMP3-branded converter. |
| y2mate.mx, y2mate.lol | Show a "Redirecting..." page whose script checks for an ad blocker, then hands the visitor to a domain-parking traffic router that picks the destination. |
y2matedownloader.com labels its software "Official" and en.y2mate.st links to a "y2mate_official" donation page, but none of the pages we read says it continues the y2mate.com that IFPI closed. Each copy has its own limits, ads and owner, and any of them can move again.
The Y2Mate sites you can still find
y2mate.nu is operated by CreativeCode Ltd, the company behind YTMP3.nu, according to TorrentFreak's 2023 reporting. It is not the original Y2Mate. y2mate.is, y2mate.so, y2mate.ch, y2mate.lol and y2mate.ws appear to be unrelated lookalikes; public sources do not establish who runs them. y2mate.ws is one of four sites Canadian ISPs were ordered to block in June 2026.
Recent Trustpilot reviews of the lookalikes describe the experience: intrusive pop-ups, being forced to disable an ad blocker before the download appears, broken metadata on the file, and in one March 2025 account a redirect into a 49 euro per month subscription instead of a download. Those are individual reports, but they match what Comparitech and PCRisk describe as the Y2Mate ad model: the site itself is not malware, the deceptive ads around it can lead to unwanted programs.
Quick checks
- If y2mate.com does not load at all, that is expected: since October 2026 the domain does not even resolve. There is no fix and no official mirror.
- If a Y2Mate site says it is not available in your country, the site itself is refusing your region. Another lookalike domain only swaps one unknown operator for another.
- If a "Y2Mate" site loads, remember it is not the original and you have no way to know who runs it.
- Open the video on YouTube first. Private, age restricted, region restricted or removed videos cannot be fetched by any converter.
- Do not disable your ad blocker for a download button. If the site insists, leave.
An ad-free alternative: what AudioFetcher offers
AudioFetcher is the converter we build, so read this section as the developer's description rather than an independent review. The facts below are the ones a visitor can check on the site itself.
| Ads and pop-ups | None. The service is funded by Supporter Passes and donations, not ad networks. |
|---|---|
| Installation | None. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile; a Firefox extension is optional. |
| Free limit | Single videos up to 60 minutes, MP3 up to 320 kbps, FLAC, or the original Opus and M4A streams. Up to 50 free MP4s a day, up to 1080p. |
| Paid option | Supporter Pass, $5 one-time for 30 days: audio up to 12 hours, full playlists, priority processing. No subscription. |
| Extras | Chapter embedding and splitting, SponsorBlock removal, ID3 tags and cover art, subtitles, LRCLIB lyrics, ordered playlist ZIPs. |
| Verification | One Cloudflare Turnstile check before a free conversion. No account for free use. |
| Files | Temporary. Downloads expire after a short window and are deleted; nothing is kept as a library. |
| Content policy | Convert only videos you own or have permission to download. |
Common questions
Is Y2Mate really shut down?
y2mate.com is. IFPI announced the closure on October 14, 2025 and took over the domain; when we checked on October 21, 2026 it no longer resolved at all. The sites still using the Y2Mate name are separate operations and were not part of that agreement.
Is y2mate.nu the new official Y2Mate?
No. TorrentFreak identified y2mate.nu as a CreativeCode Ltd property, the company that runs YTMP3.nu. It borrowed the name; it is not a continuation of the original service. On October 21, 2026 it redirected to y2mate.gs.
Why does Y2Mate say it is not available in my country?
On October 21, 2026, y2mate.nu and y2mate.gs showed visitors in Canada a "Restricted" page instead of the converter, while the same address worked from Jordan. The site decides which countries it serves; Y2Mate already cut off US and UK visitors in 2021 after RIAA takedown notices, and a Canadian court ordered ISPs to block y2mate.ws in June 2026. It is not a fault on your device or connection.
Was Y2Mate a virus?
Comparitech and PCRisk describe Y2Mate as not malicious on its own, with the risk coming from deceptive ads and download buttons that can lead to potentially unwanted applications. Trustpilot reviewers describe redirects and forced ad blocker disabling on the current lookalikes.
What replaced Y2Mate for most people?
Command-line users moved to yt-dlp. People who want a website generally look for a converter without ads that states its limits plainly. The comparison below describes what AudioFetcher offers; check it against your needs rather than taking our word for it.
