Y2Mate is gone. Here is what happened
The original y2mate.com closed for good on October 14, 2025, together with eleven other stream-ripping sites, after enforcement action by IFPI in Vietnam. IFPI now holds the domain. Any site calling itself Y2Mate today, such as y2mate.nu, y2mate.is or y2mate.lol, is a lookalike of unknown ownership, and one of them was blocked by a Canadian court in June 2026.

The October 2025 shutdown
IFPI, the recording industry's global trade body, announced on October 14, 2025 that the operator of Y2mate.com had agreed to shut the site down permanently, along with 9convert.com, In-y2mate.com, Tomp3.cc, Ump3.cc, utomp3.com, y2mate.gg, yt1s.gg, youtubepp.com, yt1s.com, vidcombo.com and Y2mates.com. IFPI said the twelve domains had received more than 620 million visits in the previous twelve months and that most of the domains, including y2mate.com and yt1s.com, are now in its possession.
This was the end of a long process. Back in August 2021, Y2Mate had already blocked visitors from the United States and United Kingdom with a fake "service discontinued" notice after roughly 9,300 takedown notices from the RIAA. TorrentFreak, which covered both events, cautioned that such sites can be relaunched quickly, which is exactly what the lookalikes did.
The Y2Mate sites you can still find
y2mate.nu is operated by CreativeCode Ltd, the company behind YTMP3.nu, according to TorrentFreak's 2023 reporting. It is not the original Y2Mate. y2mate.is, y2mate.so, y2mate.ch, y2mate.lol and y2mate.ws appear to be unrelated lookalikes; public sources do not establish who runs them. y2mate.ws is one of four sites Canadian ISPs were ordered to block in June 2026.
Recent Trustpilot reviews of the lookalikes describe the experience: intrusive pop-ups, being forced to disable an ad blocker before the download appears, broken metadata on the file, and in one March 2025 account a redirect into a 49 euro per month subscription instead of a download. Those are individual reports, but they match what Comparitech and PCRisk describe as the Y2Mate ad model: the site itself is not malware, the deceptive ads around it can lead to unwanted programs.
Quick checks
- If y2mate.com shows a notice or an error, that is the seizure. There is no fix and no official mirror.
- If a "Y2Mate" site loads, remember it is not the original and you have no way to know who runs it.
- Open the video on YouTube first. Private, age restricted, region restricted or removed videos cannot be fetched by any converter.
- Do not disable your ad blocker for a download button. If the site insists, leave.

Is Y2Mate really shut down?
y2mate.com is. IFPI announced the closure on October 14, 2025, and holds the domain. The sites still using the Y2Mate name are separate operations and were not part of that agreement.
Is y2mate.nu the new official Y2Mate?
No. TorrentFreak identified y2mate.nu as a CreativeCode Ltd property, the company that runs YTMP3.nu. It borrowed the name; it is not a continuation of the original service.
Was Y2Mate a virus?
