How to convert YouTube to MP4

AudioFetcher fetches YouTube's own H.264 video stream and AAC audio stream and joins them into one MP4 file. Nothing is re-encoded, so picture and sound are exactly what YouTube serves at the resolution you pick.

  1. 1
    Copy the video link

Use Share > Copy link in the YouTube app, or copy the address bar. Watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts and music.youtube.com links all work.

  2. 2
    Paste it and choose MP4

Paste the link into AudioFetcher and pick MP4 (Video + audio). The button on this page opens the converter with MP4 already selected.

  3. 3
    Pick a resolution

1080p (Full HD), 720p (HD), 480p (Data saver) or 360p (Small file). If the video has no version at that resolution, you get the highest one below it.

  4. 4
    Fetch and save

Press Fetch MP4, then Download. Files are temporary on the server, so save yours before the displayed expiry.

Free MP4: up to 50 videos a day per visitor, each up to 40 minutes and up to 1080p, with no account. Free conversions start with a quick Cloudflare security check. Longer videos, up to 3 hours at 1080p, need a Supporter Pass ($5 for 30 days, no subscription) or a $2 Day Pass for 24 hours. Private, age-restricted, region-restricted, removed and live videos can't be converted. Use only videos you own or have permission to download.

YouTube Shorts to MP4

Shorts convert the same way as normal videos: copy the Short's link and paste it into AudioFetcher. In a browser you can also change youtube.com to audiofetcher.com in the address bar, so youtube.com/shorts/… becomes audiofetcher.com/shorts/… and opens ready to convert.

Vertical videos keep their shape. The resolution limit applies to the short side, so a 1080p Short arrives as 1080×1920. Converting Shorts often? The one-click shortcuts send the video you're watching straight to AudioFetcher.

Which resolution should you pick?

Why not 1440p or 4K? On YouTube, resolutions above 1080p exist only in the VP9 or AV1 codecs, which many phones, TVs and video editors can't play from an MP4. AudioFetcher sticks to H.264 so the file plays everywhere. Only want the sound? Pick MP3, or M4A for the original audio stream.

Free limits and the Supporter Pass

Why there are no ads or pop-ups

Many free converters pay their bills with pop-ups, redirects and fake download buttons. AudioFetcher has none of them: it is funded by optional Supporter Passes and donations. You paste a link, pick a format and get one file. The only extra step is a quick Cloudflare security check before free conversions, which stops bots from using up the free capacity everyone shares.

Questions

Is this YouTube to MP4 converter really free?

Yes. Each visitor can convert up to 50 videos a day to MP4 for free, each up to 40 minutes long and up to 1080p, without an account. A Supporter Pass is only needed for longer videos.

Can I download YouTube videos in 4K or 1440p?

No. AudioFetcher's MP4 goes up to 1080p. Above that, YouTube only offers VP9 or AV1 video, which many phones, TVs and editors can't play from an MP4, so the converter stays with H.264 to keep the file compatible.

How do I convert a YouTube Short to MP4?

Copy the Short's link with Share > Copy link, paste it into AudioFetcher and choose MP4. Vertical Shorts stay vertical, up to 1080×1920.

My video is longer than 40 minutes. What can I do?

Free MP4s are limited to 40 minutes per video. A Supporter Pass ($5 for 30 days) or a Day Pass ($2 for 24 hours) raises that to 3 hours. If you only need the sound, MP3, M4A and Opus are free for videos up to 60 minutes.

Will the MP4 play on my iPhone, TV or in my video editor?

Yes. The file uses H.264 video and AAC audio, the most widely supported combination. iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, most smart TVs, VLC, iMovie, CapCut and Premiere Pro all open it.

Can I keep subtitles or chapters in the MP4?

Yes. Under Prepare files, Embed subtitles adds one caption language to the MP4, Embed chapters keeps the video's chapter markers, and SponsorBlock can cut or mark sponsor segments.

Where does the file go on my phone?

On iPhone, Safari saves it to Files > Downloads; open it there and tap Share > Save Video to add it to Photos. On Android it goes to the Download folder, which you can open from the Files app or your browser's downloads list.

Which videos can I convert?

Public YouTube videos, Shorts and YouTube Music videos that you own or have permission to download. Private, age-restricted, region-restricted, removed and live videos can't be converted.
