How to download audio from a YouTube playlist

To download audio from a YouTube playlist as separate MP3s, copy the playlist link, open AudioFetcher’s playlist converter, preview the entries, select the videos you have permission to process and start the queue. Check the playlist limits before starting

Count the selected entries and check the longest video before starting. A playlist’s total running time and an individual video’s duration are different limits: many short lessons may fit the queue’s link allowance while one unusually long recording needs separate attention.

For a collection larger than the queue allowance, divide the permitted entries into clearly recorded groups. Keep the original playlist positions in your notes so later groups do not overwrite or become confused with earlier downloads. Paying for a pass does not make inaccessible media available or grant permission to copy it.

Select the right entries and confirm the playlist link

Open the playlist itself before copying its address. A video opened from a playlist can have both video and playlist information in its URL. Rather than editing the address by guesswork, use the playlist’s own page or sharing option, then confirm the converter’s preview contains the expected collection.

Review the selection by title and position. A mixed playlist may include trailers, repeated uploads, introductions or recordings from several owners. Decide whether repeated entries are intentional: a lesson repeated for practice serves a different purpose from an accidental duplicate.

Treat private, deleted or access-restricted entries as exceptions to resolve through the owner or an authorized source. Do not try to bypass sign-in, subscription, geographic or other access controls. If permission covers only part of the playlist, select only that part.

Separate MP3 files make it easier to skip between lessons, replace one recording and retry an individual failure. Keep one file per selected video unless you have a specific reason to combine them. A playlist link describes a collection; it does not mean the result should be one continuous audio file.

Keep playlist order when moving the files

Do not assume a folder will play in YouTube’s sequence. The destination player may sort by filename, embedded track number or another library field. For a course or interview series, use a consistent sequence such as “001 - Introduction.mp3” and “002 - First Lesson.mp3.”

Use enough leading zeros for the collection: three digits accommodate positions through 999. If you selected only some entries, decide whether filenames should preserve the original positions or use a new consecutive sequence. Original positions make comparison with YouTube easier; consecutive numbering makes the selected collection easier to browse.

Keep a note containing the playlist URL, save date, selected positions and expected file count. If the playlist changes later, this records what your saved snapshot contains. Before copying everything to a dedicated player, transfer a small sample and check how that device orders it.

Choose bitrate and estimate storage

Choose MP3 settings for the destination and the available source. MP3 uses lossy compression. A higher output bitrate can reduce additional compression pressure, but it cannot restore detail already missing from YouTube’s delivered audio. Keep your original recordings when you have them.

For constant-bitrate audio, approximate size in decimal megabytes equals duration in seconds multiplied by bitrate in kilobits per second, divided by 8,000. At 192 kbps, one hour is about 86.4 MB; ten hours is about 864 MB, before small metadata and packaging overheads.

Use the selected videos’ combined duration for your estimate, rather than the duration of the whole playlist if you excluded entries. Fix missing tracks without repeating the whole playlist

Compare the expected selection with the completed downloads first. A lower file count can mean an entry was excluded, two titles were confused, a download did not finish or an individual conversion failed. Record the affected video and the displayed error before retrying.

For an accessible video you have permission to process, retry that item separately. If several unrelated permitted videos fail, consult AudioFetcher’s conversion help before resubmitting the entire queue. Save successful files first to avoid creating unnecessary duplicates.

If a downloaded MP3 stops early or will not open, check that the browser finished saving it and compare its duration with the selected video. Try another current player to distinguish a file problem from a playback problem. A bitrate change will not repair an incomplete download or make an unavailable source accessible.

• Restricted entry: exclude it or obtain an authorized copy from the owner.

When YouTube’s own download options are a better fit

Choose supported offline playback when you want to listen within YouTube and do not need transferable files. YouTube explains that its app does not export audio, music or MP3 files; its offline video downloads remain encrypted for playback within the app.

For videos you uploaded yourself, YouTube Studio offers individual MP4 downloads, while Google Takeout can export your uploaded videos in bulk. These exports concern your uploads, not every third-party video saved in one of your playlists. If you still have the original recordings, use those for editing or future audio exports.

YouTube’s Terms restrict downloading and modifying content except as expressly authorized by the service or with prior written permission from YouTube and applicable rights holders. Content permission and platform authorization are separate considerations. Keep the relevant project or license records with an important saved collection.
