Honest limits

PCM WAV estimates use the uncompressed audio formula. Lossy format estimates assume constant bitrate; metadata, artwork, and variable bitrate can change the final size.

How to use Audio File Size Calculator

  1. 1

Choose a quick preset or enter the duration and number of files.

  2. 2

Select compressed bitrate mode or enter the WAV sample rate, bit depth, and channels.

  3. 3

Compare the estimated sizes and share the calculation with its generated link.

What this tool changes

For PCM WAV, file size grows directly with duration, sample rate, bit depth, and channel count. A 48 kHz, 24-bit stereo recording uses three times as much audio data as a 48 kHz, 16-bit mono recording of the same duration.

For MP3, AAC, OGG, and Opus, bitrate is the practical planning input. At a constant 192 kbps, one minute is about 1.44 MB before small container and metadata overhead. Variable-bitrate encoders can finish above or below the estimate.

Audio File Size Calculator questions

How do I calculate uncompressed WAV file size?

Multiply duration in seconds by sample rate, bit depth, and channel count, then divide by 8 to convert bits to bytes. Container headers add a small amount.

How do I estimate MP3 or AAC file size?

Multiply duration in seconds by bitrate in bits per second, then divide by 8. Variable bitrate, tags, and embedded artwork can change the final result.
