AudioFetcher vs yt-dlp
yt-dlp is free, open source and more capable than any web converter, including AudioFetcher. It needs an install, ffmpeg, a JavaScript runtime for YouTube since late 2025, and regular updates. AudioFetcher itself uses yt-dlp and ffmpeg on its own servers, so you get original audio, FLAC, playlists, chapters, SponsorBlock and tags from a web page instead of a terminal.

What using yt-dlp involves in 2026
Since version 2025.11.12, YouTube support requires a JavaScript runtime such as Deno in addition to ffmpeg. The project's PO Token Guide, last edited July 12, 2026, explains that some downloads can fail with 403 errors, or an account or IP can be blocked, without the right tokens. Releases are frequent, and staying current is part of using it.
Choose yt-dlp if
- You are comfortable in a terminal and want full control.
- You download large numbers of videos, whole channels, or from many sites.
- You want everything to run on your own machine.
Choose AudioFetcher if
- You want the audio features without installing anything or keeping tools updated.
- You are on a phone, a Chromebook, or a work computer where you cannot install software.
- You convert occasionally and just want a file.
