Your selected media stays on this device. AudioFetcher loads its processing engine, reads the file in browser memory, and creates the result locally.
Refresh or close the tab and the selected file and generated result leave browser memory.
Exports up to 40 seconds for M4R and 60 seconds for MP3. Use 30 seconds for Apple's GarageBand route. Installing the ringtone is a separate step; menus and transfer support vary by device. Files up to 64 MB.
How to use Ringtone Maker
- 1
Choose an audio file up to 64 MB that you own or have permission to use.
- 2
Choose iPhone M4R or Android MP3, enter the start time and clip length, then preview the selected section.
- 3
Set optional fade-in and fade-out durations. Preview plays the source section; the exported file includes the fades.
- 4
Export and download the ringtone, then follow the installation steps for your phone below.
What this tool changes
Trim a local audio file, preview the selected section and export an iPhone M4R or Android MP3 ringtone with optional fades.
Exports up to 40 seconds for M4R and 60 seconds for MP3. Use 30 seconds for Apple's GarageBand route. Installing the ringtone is a separate step; menus and transfer support vary by device. Files up to 64 MB.
Choose a clip that works as a ringtone
A ringtone should be easy to recognise when your phone starts ringing. Pick a clear phrase, sound or moment rather than an extended quiet introduction. Start and length are entered in seconds: a start of 45 and a length of 20 selects the passage from 45 to 65 seconds. The entire selection must fit within the original file. Shorten the length if you are close to the end.
Preview lets you hear that passage before encoding it. Browsers support different source formats, so a file may export successfully through the private decoder even if the browser cannot preview it. Optional fades are applied to the exported ringtone, not the source preview. A short fade can soften an abrupt opening or ending. Keep fades shorter than the clip, and consider whether a long fade-in would make the first ring too quiet to notice.
M4R and MP3: choose the right output
The iPhone option creates AAC audio at approximately 192 kbps in an MP4 audio container with the .m4r filename extension. M4R identifies a ringtone file for compatible Apple transfer workflows. Renaming an arbitrary MP3 to .m4r is not the same thing: its encoded audio and container would still be MP3. This tool encodes the selected passage into the appropriate container rather than changing only the name.
The Android option creates an MP3 at 192 kbps. Many Android phones let you choose a local MP3 directly through their sound settings. Both outputs are listening copies and use lossy encoding. Keep the original when it matters for future editing. The tool accepts up to 40 seconds for M4R exports and 60 seconds for MP3 exports, with a 30-second default. Apple documents a 30-second limit for its GarageBand export route, so choose 30 seconds or less for that method.
Install on iPhone without a computer
Download your clip into Files, then use GarageBand to import an eligible audio file into an audio track. Trim and position it at the beginning of the project. In the song browser, select the project, choose Share, then Ringtone, and export. You can assign the result during export or choose it in Settings under Sounds & Haptics and Ringtone. GarageBand shortens exports longer than 30 seconds; protected songs cannot be used.
Follow Apple's current GarageBand ringtone instructions for the exact controls. If Files or your installed GarageBand version does not offer the .m4r as an importable file, rename a copy to .m4a: this export already contains AAC in an MP4 audio container. Keep the original copy. Saving a file alone does not install a ringtone, and available import actions can vary by app version.
Transfer an iPhone ringtone with a computer
On a Mac, connect and unlock the iPhone, trust the computer if prompted, and open the device in Finder. In versions that support custom tone transfer, drag the downloaded .m4r onto the device view and allow the transfer to complete. With older Windows or macOS setups, iTunes may provide a device or Tones transfer route. Afterwards, check Settings, Sounds & Haptics, Ringtone on the iPhone.
Apple's computer apps and device interfaces have changed across versions. Do not assume that a modern Apple Devices installation on Windows exposes the old iTunes Tones section or accepts a drag in the same place. If your version has no suitable tone transfer control, use the GarageBand method above rather than repeatedly copying the file into an ordinary music library. The export here prepares the file; successful installation still depends on the supported transfer route on your device.
Install an Android ringtone
Save the MP3 and move it into the Ringtones folder in your phone's internal storage using a file manager. Then open the sound settings and choose the new file as your phone ringtone. Some phones instead offer an Add, plus or Choose from files button in the ringtone picker, allowing you to select the download without moving it first. Check the setting for the correct SIM if your phone uses more than one.
Menu names vary by phone maker and Android version. They may appear under Sound, Sound & vibration or a similar heading. If the ringtone does not appear, verify that the file downloaded completely, open it in a player, and reopen the picker. A restarted phone or refreshed file listing may help it notice a newly moved file. Notification and alarm sounds are separate settings, so changing the phone ringtone does not necessarily change those sounds.
Privacy, limits and other options
Processing happens on your device. The page loads a local decoder when needed, stores temporary working data in browser memory and creates a download. A ten-minute source can still be used because only a short section is exported, but the browser must read the source file. Older phones have less memory; use a smaller source if processing stops. Files above 64 MB are rejected before conversion.
For a longer excerpt, use the audio trimmer; it does not apply this ringtone-specific length cap. GarageBand can also perform the full iPhone workflow, and desktop audio editors provide more detailed selection controls. This maker is intended for preparing one short personal sound quickly. It does not access subscription music, remove protection, copy a ringtone onto a connected phone automatically or change the phone's settings.
Ringtone Maker questions
Does Ringtone Maker upload my file?
Your selected media stays on this device. AudioFetcher loads its processing engine, reads the file in browser memory, and creates the result locally.
What should I know before using Ringtone Maker?
Exports up to 40 seconds for M4R and 60 seconds for MP3. Use 30 seconds for Apple's GarageBand route. Installing the ringtone is a separate step; menus and transfer support vary by device. Files up to 64 MB.
Why doesn't the M4R become my ringtone after downloading?
The download creates a file. Use a compatible computer tone-transfer route or GarageBand, then choose the installed ringtone in your iPhone settings.
Should my iPhone ringtone be 30 or 40 seconds?
The tool allows M4R file exports up to 40 seconds. Choose 30 seconds or less for Apple's documented GarageBand ringtone route, which otherwise shortens the export.
Can I use this on an Android phone?
Yes. Choose Android MP3, download the clip and select it through your phone's ringtone picker or place it in the Ringtones folder. Menu names vary.
